IOL TV Mag Issue 3

TV-Issue-3.JPG

As it’s Heritage Month, we decided to turn back the clock and look at the history of television in South Africa.
We reflect on the bubbling excitement of owning a TV box set, which was a big deal back then. There was no such thing as a remote control – the youngest person in the family was the one who would physically change the knob on the TV.
Although there were many international shows that we loved, we wanted to keep this a proudly local edition.
We look at the trending and pioneering offerings, especially during the ‘80s and ‘90s. And we also take a trip down memory lane with the idolised TV presenters and news anchors at the time.
This edition is all about the glory days of TV in our beautiful country, where cultural diversity manifested in unforgettable shows and TV stars.
